Introduction

Patrick Matthews was born and raised in north Manchester, England, in 1961. He studied at the Hochschule Der Kunst, Berlin, and the Henry Moore Centre For Sculptural Studies, Leeds University, England. Where he gained a Master of Arts degree in the history of sculpture. He now lives and works in Amsterdam.

His most recent work is an ongoing series of sculptures, drawings and paintings which exist as part of a larger frame as installations and time based works, on both small and large sized paper and traditional canvasses, placed within architectural spaces as well as large murals that turn his personal and spontaneous gestures into monumental public statements.

His work aims to capture certain motivational forces, which encapsulate his production with the speed of thought and spontaneity he seeks to embody: intuition, rhythm and harmony.

Most recently his work has been shown in Buenos Aires, Argentina; the University of Colorado, USA; Odzaci, Beograd and Vojvodina in former Yugoslavia; Helsinki, Finland; Dunkerque University, France; and the state of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
